The Maria Island Ferry provides access to Maria Island from Triabunna, a town located about one and a half hours from Hobart and 2.5 hours from Launceston. The ferry runs daily with departures subject to demand and safe sailing conditions, taking approximately 30 minutes to reach Darlington on Maria Island.

The ticket price includes one small carry-on bag up to 7kg and no larger than 600 x 400 x 300mm. Overnight return tickets also include two pieces of larger luggage up to 17kg each.

Booking and Check-in

Advance bookings are recommended and can be made at www.encountermaria.com.au. All passengers must check-in at the Maria Island Gateway building in Triabunna at least 45 minutes before departure. A valid National Parks pass is required for check-in, which can be purchased online with your ferry reservation or at the Gateway building. For more information about parks passes, visit here.

Luggage and Parking

Your ticket includes one carry-on bag up to 7kg. Additional luggage fees apply for heavier items. Same day return ticket holders are allowed one carry-on item each, while overnight return ticket holders can bring two pieces of larger luggage up to 17kg each. Additional luggage up to 17kg incurs a fee of $11.00 per piece. There is plenty of free parking near the ferry dock. Alternatively, you can book a day tour from Hobart that includes ferry reservations.

On Arrival

Upon arrival on Maria Island, you will need to walk 500 meters from the ferry dock to Darlington town. A few wheeled carts are available to help carry your luggage. Remember, there are no shops or rubbish bins on Maria Island, so bring everything you need and take all rubbish with you when you leave.
