New Maria Island Daily Cruise and Walking Tour | October 2026

Starting from October 15, 2026, Pennicott Wilderness Journeys is offering a new way to explore Maria Island in Tasmania. This experience includes a daily cruise and walking tour, departing from Triabunna.

The tour begins with a 3.25-hour cruise on the Freycinet Explorer, a custom-built vessel. During the cruise, visitors can admire the stunning coastline of Ile des Phoques and Maria Island, featuring granite sea caves and sandstone cliffs. Wildlife enthusiasts might spot Australian fur seals, dolphins, and various seabirds along the way.

Once on Maria Island, guests have around two hours to explore. The visit includes a guided walk through the World Heritage-listed Darlington convict settlement, with additional time to explore the island independently. The island is home to wildlife such as wombats, wallabies, and kangaroos.

Tours leave Triabunna at 10am and return by approximately 3.45pm. Visitors can bring their own lunch or opt for a ploughman’s-style lunch, which includes smoked meats, salad, cheeses, locally baked bread, fruit, and a sweet treat.
