The Reef Fleet Terminal in Cairns
The Reef Fleet Terminal is the primary check-in location for most Great Barrier Reef tours departing from Cairns. Located at 1 Spence Street, it is conveniently situated next to the Shangri-La Hotel and The Pier Shopping Centre, making it easily accessible from most accommodations in the CBD.
Check-In Process
Most reef operators have dedicated desks inside the terminal where you can check in, ask questions, and collect your boarding pass before heading to your vessel. Some tours may allow you to board directly at the vessel without checking in at a desk. You will receive exact check-in and boarding instructions when you book your tour.
Transport Options
If you need transport to the terminal, coach transfers from your accommodation can be arranged. However, if you are traveling with three or more people, it might be more cost-effective to take a taxi or Uber, as hotel transfers are usually charged per person.

Fitzroy Island Resort Check-In
Travellers staying at Fitzroy Island Resort will need to check in at the Fitzroy Island Booking Centre, located just outside the main entrance of the Reef Fleet Terminal. It is clearly signposted and only a few steps from the terminal doors.
Souvenir & Essentials Shop
Outside the terminal, there is a small shop where you can purchase last-minute items such as reef-safe sunscreen, hats, towels, reusable water bottles, snacks, drinks, and souvenirs.
Café & Waiting Area
The terminal features a relaxed café offering fresh coffee, cold drinks, pastries, and light snacks. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, providing a comfortable place to wait for boarding or meet your tour group.
Luggage Lockers & Storage
The Reef Fleet Terminal does not offer luggage storage, but there are several convenient options nearby. The closest self-service option is the coin-operated lockers at the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon, located at the southern end of the Lagoon inside the main amenities block next to the public toilets and showers. These lockers are directly beside the Southern Esplanade (Lagoon) Car Park, accessed via Pier Point Road.
